At least eight people were killed and around 30 others were wounded when a car bomb exploded here southeast of Baghdad on Thursday.<br/> <br />Witnesses said the car bomb ripped through a market place just before iftar, the fast-breaking meal, only a few metres from a Shi'ite mosque.<br/> <br />Worshippers had gathered there to mark the day Imam Ali was wounded before his death two days later on the 21st day of Ramadan in 661.<br/> <br />The attack was the latest in an apparent spike in violence since the start of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
