Flood fears in Philippines in wake of tropical storm

Swollen rivers in the aftermath of Kai-Tak.<br/> <br />The tropical storm left at least seven people dead after it swept through the Philippines early Thursday and set course for southern China.<br/> <br />Kai-Tak battered the northern Philippines, triggering deadly landslides in mountainous regions, and flooding agricultural areas.<br/> <br />But even with the storm gone, more monsoon rains were expected in the north of the country, and rivers were expected to continue to burst their banks.<br/> <br />Residents here are getting ready to evacuate.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Filipino) RESIDENT EMILY GANIGAD SAYING:<br/> <br />"We have fears that the flood level will rise. We're not certain if it will, but we feel there's a risk because looking over here and over there, it seems we're surrounded by water."<br/> <br />This week's deluge is the latest wave of misery to hit the nation - last week, floods killed 95 people and displaced hundreds of thousands, causing more than 50 million U.S. dollars worth of damage.
