USAID, the American aid agency, has started operating in the Afghan city of Herat after years of widespread unrest subsided there.<br /><br />Now that the Taliban's presence has dropped sharply in the city and stability has risen, USAID has implemented various development projects to revamp its roads, irrigation system and food production.<br /><br />Bernard Smith reports from Herat.
