People across Asia and the western United States have been gazing at the skies to see the sun blotted out. <br /><br />An annular solar eclipse created a "ring of fire" around the moon when it reached its peak in the US late on Sunday local time.<br /><br />The eclipse generated much excitment in Tokyo, which has not witnessed one for 173 years and won`t see another for centuries.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Mike Firn reports.
