The US has been showing signs of recovery for the first time in nearly three years.<br /><br />The jobless rate has dropped to 8.5 per cent, the lowest since February 2009.<br /><br />At least 200,000 jobs were created last month, a figure that surpassed the expectations of economists who estimated an increase of around 150,000.<br /><br />But with 13.1m unemployed people, the US economy needs more job growth over a longer period of time to recover significantly.<br /><br />The slight boost to the economy could be good news for President Barack Obama, who faces an election later this year. <br /><br />Al Jazeera' John Hendren reports from the White House in Washington.
