A tense stand off in this mainly Kurdish-populated town of Hakkari in south-eastern Turkey.<br/> <br />Demonstrators were protesting the arrival of Turkish interior minister, Idris Naim Sahin.<br/> <br />The minister, shielded by police, was greeted by jeers and catcalls by the crowd.<br/> <br />As the atmosphere became more tense, police fired into the air to disperse the crowd - and Sahin was pushed into a shop for safety.<br/> <br />The minister, who was visiting security forces in the area for Ramadan, was later taken to a local governor's office .<br/> <br />Kurds using firecrackers and petrol bombs clashed with police in Hakkari as they mark the 28th anniversary of the Kurdistan Workers' Party armed struggle for Kurdish independence.
