Protests greet Greece tax increases

Evangelos Venizelos, the Greek finance minister, has announced a new round of tax rises and spending cuts worth some $5.3bn.<br /><br />People on the streets of Athens, who have protested for weeks over the government's plan to carve out savings of $39bn by 2015, reacted in more anger to the latest announcement.<br /><br />They said the new measure fails to tackle rampant tax evasion and corruption and that it would hit honest taxpayers the hardest.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Andrew Simmons reports from Athens.
