Myanmar's Suu Kyi takes oath of office

Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's opposition leader, has been sworn in as a member of parliament after nearly two decades of struggle against the powerful military.<br /><br />The Nobel laureate took the oath of office in the capital, Naypyidaw, along with newly elected members from her National League for Democracy party.<br /><br />NLD swept by-elections on April 1, but its successful candidates initially refused to take their seats over wording in the parliamentary oath.<br /><br />However, the party backed down on the issue saying they wanted to achieve their goal in a flexible manner.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Veronica Pedrosa reports.
