Aid groups are appealing for more funds, and to airlines for cargo space in their flights to get nutritious food to the those in famine in Somalia.<br /><br />With children are bearing the brunt of the crisis in Somalia, half a million children are on the brink of starvation. <br /><br />At least two of the famine zones are under the control of al-Shabab, an opposition group regarded by US security agencies as linked to al-Qaeda.<br /><br />The UN says that about two million people in these regions cannot be reached and there are claims that large numbers of them are being held against their will.<br /><br />Al Jazeera spoke to Peter Smerdon, the UNICEF spokesperson in New York.
