Every year, more than half a billion dollars’ worth of secondhand clothes are sent out of the United States, and many of those items end up in developing countries.<br /><br />Yet few people know how their old clothes get to the needy.<br /><br />As part of Al Jazeera's series “Rags to Riches”, Tom Ackerman travelled to Virginia to find out how one person's trash can be someone else's treasure.
