The Taliban has confirmed it has come to an "initial agreement" to open a political office overseas as part of peace talks with the US.<br /><br />The US government said it would welcome the move if the group renounces violence.<br /><br />After more than 10 years of fighting in Afghanistan, the Taliban's announcement is the first public gesture towards negotiations with the US.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Rosiland Jordan reports from Washignton DC.
