Since the uprising began in Syria, a number of soldiers have defected from the army, some to join the Free Syrian Army, but others have been forced outside the country's borders.<br /><br />In an exclusive report, Al Jazeera went to a village located in northern Lebanon to see how they operate.<br /><br />Outnumbered and outgunned, these army defectors say they were forced to retreat when security forces stormed the town of Telkalah last August.<br /><br />The leader of the newly named Martyrs of Telkalah Brigade says he is in direct contact with the Free Syrian Army's command base in southern Turkey.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr reports from northern Lebanon.
