ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />STORY: An estimated 100,000 demonstrators marched in Santiago, Chile on Tuesday in a prolonged battle over education reform.<br/> <br />Teachers' groups and student organizations called a strike and took to the streets in massive numbers.<br/> <br />Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters who barricaded the streets and threw rocks and other objects at the police.<br/> <br />Chile's students have led regular protests calling for education reform for over a year. The students say they are frustrated at government's failure to deliver what they consider to be an adequate response to their demands.<br/> <br />In Chile tuition costs are among the world's highest. A report by Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Chilean households pay up to 75 percent of education costs, saddling many with high interest loans.
