India upholds death sentence for Mumbai attacker

Mohammad Ajmal Kasab, the lone survivor of a group of militants responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people.<br/> <br />He is seen here walking through Mumbai's main train station, during an attack in which at least 60 people were gunned down.<br/> <br />On Wednesday, India's Supreme Court moved to uphold the death sentence handed down to Kasab.<br/> <br />A lawyer for the prosecution announced the verdict to reporters.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (English) PUBLIC PROSECUTOR, GOPAL SUBRAMANIUM, SAYING:<br/> <br />"The Supreme Court has today dismissed the appeal of Mohammad Kasab. It has confirmed the findings on evidence on a scrutiny of the same. The evidence was place before the court de novo by both parties."<br/> <br />The three-day string of coordinated attacks struck key landmarks in the city, including the Taj Hotel, as well as a Jewish centre.<br/> <br />Kasab was found guilty on more than 80 charges, including murder and waging war on India.
