Airplanes drop fire retardant in Portugal - as the battle to contain a series of wildfires continued on Wednesday.<br/> <br />Cash-strapped Portugal had requested two firefighting airplanes from Spain and two from France - reportedly funded by the EU.<br/> <br />Meanwhile, on the ground, more than 8,000 firefighters were deployed to try to extinguish the hundreds of fire fronts.<br/> <br />The fires - fueled by high temperatures and dry conditions - have led to at least one death - and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate their homes.
