Indonesia's 1, 715 meter volcano, Mount Gamalama spewed ash as high as 1,000 meters on Sunday (September 16) after it erupted a day earlier, Indonesia's national agency for disaster management said.<br/> <br />Officials said a second eruption caused the ash to spew and was spreading across the area.<br/> <br />The city of Ternate in the North Mollucas province was covered in ash. Television video showed smog on the roads due to the ash.<br/> <br />Indonesian authorities have said there is no need for residents to evacuate yet, although officials have said people should stay indoors.<br/> <br />The Department of Health is providing masks to residents in affected communities.<br/> <br />Indonesia has 130 active volcanoes, the highest of any country, sitting on a belt of intense seismic activity known as the "Pacific Ring of Fire".
