SNAPPER ROCKS, Queensland/Australia (Wednesday, March 2, 2011) -- A continued lack of swell on the Gold Coast, saw competition in the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro's presented by Land Rover called off for the fourth consecutive day.
The opening events of the 2011 ASP World Title season have yet to recommence since round one was staged last Saturday, but a promising forecast for the end of the waiting period could have the world's best surfers go out with a bang.
Two-time Quiksilver Pro champion Joel Parkinson (Aus) (AUS) - who won at Kirra Point in 2009 and at Snapper Rocks in 2002 - said the swell forecast could see the ASP world tour event return to the iconic Kirra Point break again.
Parkinson added that an increase in swell should favour local surfers with competition continuing on the points. Parkinson is through to round three after enjoying a round one win.
The thirty year-old got a birds eye view of the contest site yesterday by skydiving on the southern end of the Gold Coast.
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:30am to assess conditions for a possible 7:30am start.
When competition resumes, up first will be Bede Durbidge (AUS), 28, up against wildcard Matt Banting (AUS), 16, in the opening men's heat of Round 2 and Rebecca Woods (AUS), 26, battling Courtney Conlogue (AUS), 18, in the opening women's heat of Round 2.
