From this ... to this.<br/> <br />The Turkish border town of Akcalale, shelled by Syrian forces on Wednesay, is quiet Friday morning.<br/> <br />Five people died in Wednesday's mortar attack - the deadliest cross-border incident here since the Syrian uprising began 18 months ago.<br/> <br />Turkey responded with an artillery bombardment of Syrian targets for a second day Thursday.<br/> <br />Mortars have been landing on Akcalale since last month when rebels seized the Syrian side of the border from government forces.<br/> <br />Frightened residents welcomed the military and political retaliation by Ankara.<br/> <br />This man says the psychocological toll on children in the town has been very bad but the situation has now improved.<br/> <br />Turkey's parliament has stepped up pressure on Syria by authorising more cross-border military action if necessary, though Turkey's Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara did not want to start a war with its neighbour.
