One dead in Peru clashes

Violence breaks out in Peru's capital Lima over plans to relocate market vendors to a new site.<br/> <br />One person was killed and more than 40 injured as clashes erupted after police blockaded the area where the vendors normally sell their produce.<br/> <br />They hurled stones and bottles at the police who responded with tear gas.<br/> <br />One riot police officer fell off his horse and was set upon by the protesters.<br/> <br />Police said they were carrying out a local council order to move the market after complaints that it was unhygienic.<br/> <br />But vendors accused the police of using live bullets and being unnecessarily brutal.<br/> <br />This woman says they had no consideration. "We are human beings and we need to be able to work," she says.<br/> <br />They say they don't want to move to a newly constructed market because the rents there are too high and customers would be unwilling to travel there.<br/> <br />Authorities say the fatality was a 32-year-old man killed by a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
