For his contemporaries, Lautrec was, first and foremost, a master of the psychological portrait and the creator of theatre posters. <br />In the course of 37 years of his life, he painted about 30 posters, having raised advertisement to the level of a real art. <br />Making use of the best achievements of the past generations of artists, he enriched this genre with new, genius discoveries. <br />Toulouse Lautrecs placards and posters are considered to be the standard of mastery and are the forerunners of modern advertisement.
