Hundreds march for climate change in Doha

Hundreds of activists take to the streets of Doha, Qatar.<br/> <br />They're demanding urgent action over climate change and rising global temperatures.<br/> <br />Their demonstration takes place as more than 200 nations meet in the city to discuss the Kyoto Protocol.<br/> <br />They want to extend the deadline that legally binds countries to lower gas emissions.<br/> <br />But few believe the nations will be able to agree before the protocol expires at the end of the year.<br/> <br />Protesters here want more effort before the summit ends on December 7.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: South African World Wildlife Fund Activist, Tesnim Eshab, saying (English):<br/> <br />"We are witnessing climate events already and so we want from the political leaders to take note of what the people are demanding of them."<br/> <br />Greenhouse gas emissions hit record highs in 2011, despite the global economic slowdown and promises for emissions cuts.<br/> <br />Marchers are hoping for policies that promote renewable energies over fossil fuels, an end to nuclear power and plant-based diets.<br/> <br />Some also called for greater migrant worker rights ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which Qatar is set to host.
