(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION)

Matt Damon finds a new writing partner for his new film "Promised Land."

The Oscar winning screenwriter teamed up with actor John Krasinski to pen a film about a small Pennsylvania town in economic decline fighting to keep corporate outsiders from drilling on their land.

The screenplay is based on a story by author Dave Eggers. Damon and Krasinski wrote the script in between working on separate projects.

"It was great, it was exactly like writing with Ben Affleck actually. It was really fun, really funny, you know, two actors jumping around a room, you know, improvising and occasionally writing down a usable phrase or line," Damon told Reuters.

Damon won an Academy Award for screenwriting with Ben Affleck in 1997 for the movie "Good Will Hunting," and on the red carpet Krasinski joked about taking Affleck's place: "Yes, I am the new Ben Affleck and I will be directing "Argo 2," so let's get it on," he said referring to Affleck's new film Argo which is receiving Oscar buzz.

"Promised Land" will open in New York and Los Angeles on December 28 and will have a wider release in January.
