The eight-hour hartal in the capital called by Islamist and like-minded parties ended with some incidents of detention and vandalism on Thursday.<br /><br />On the other hand, the dawn-to-dusk hartal is progressing in the rest of the country excluding Rangpur City Corporation areas where voting of the maiden city corporation is underway since 8:00 in the morning.<br /><br />At least 31 people were picked up and four buses were ransacked in the capital while six pro-hartal activists were detained and one vehicle was torched across the country.<br /><br />The incidents of minor pickets were reported from Chittagong and Sylhet while the shutdown is going on peacefully on the other parts of the country.<br /><br />The major points of the city--Paltan, Motijheel, Farmgate, Jatiya Press Club and High Court areas--were devoid of pickets, report our correspondents covering the hartal.
