PLEASE NOTE: EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL<br/> <br />The 23-year-old victim of a gang rape that's horrified many in India was airlifted to Singapore after her condition worsened.<br/> <br />She's been taken to the Mount Elizabeth Hospital which Indian officials say has facilities for multiple organ transplants.<br/> <br />A spokesman for the New Delhi hospital where she's been undergoing treatment says her condition is still critical.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: DR B.D. ATHAN, MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT AT SAFDARJUNG HOSPITAL SAYING (English):<br/> <br />"Based on the advice of a team of doctors the Government of India has made arrangements that the patient be shifted in well-equipped air ambulance to a renowned hospital identified by the doctors involving minimal journey so that she can be provided with state-of-the-art medical treatment that may perhaps stretch to many weeks."<br/> <br />The attack on the paramedic student on December 16th has unleashed a wave of protests across India.<br/> <br />She was raped for nearly an hour by several men aboard a bus, beaten and thrown from the moving vehicle.<br/> <br />There were more than 24, 200 reported rape cases in India in 2011, a rise of over nine per cent on the previous year.<br/> <br />Among the major cities New Delhi has the highest level of sex crime.<br/> <br />Police say a rape is reported there on average every 18 hours.<br/> <br />Many sex attacks go unreported in a nation where there is a deep-rooted view that women are inferior.
