An unusual sight in India - angry women take matters into their own hands and attack a prominent politician accused of rape.<br/> <br />Bikram Singh Brahma, a leader from India's ruling Congress Party in the northeastern state of Assam, allegedly raped a mother-of-two on Thursday.<br/> <br />Irate villagers also vandalized Brahma's vehicle as they demanded he be severely punished for the alleged assault.<br/> <br />Brahma was apparently handed over to local police after the attack.<br/> <br />In Delhi, a senior Congress party official confirmed that a woman, apparently the wife of one of Brahma's friends, had levelled charges against Brahma.<br/> <br />He added that a case had been registered and Brahma was under arrest.<br/> <br />The attack comes in the wake of public outrage in India over the gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman on a public bus in New Delhi last month.<br/> <br />That attack has resulted in widespread protests across the country amid calls for tougher legislation against rapists.
