Denzel Washington arrived in London on Thursday night to launch "Flight," for which he's nominated for his fifth Oscar, but the actor is in no way complacent about the recognition.

"No it feels good. To be recognised and to be honoured it's a thrill. It's very difficult to get one of those five slots so you know..."

The problem is that Denzel's character an airline pilot who makes a miraculous crash landing with only a few fatalities, is also an alcoholic.

"It was a no-brainer. I mean when I read it I went 'wow.' As soon as I finished it, I said to him 'Make a deal.'"

Like many Oscar nominees, Washington underwent a physical transformation to take on the role.

Reporter: You put on weight for this movie. How was that process ...? "Simple, just eat. Eat! And eat late!" Reporter: And how was the situation after the movie when you'd finished? How did you feel? "Bloated."

"Flight" will be landing in cinemas across Europe from next weekend.
