PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL<br/> <br />British film director and producer Michael Winner has died at the age of 77.<br/> <br />He had been ill for some time and it was revealed last summer that he had been given 18 months to live because of liver problems.<br/> <br />As a personality he was known for his flamboyance and bon viveur. Career-wise, Winner was best known internationally for his Death Wish movies starring Charles Bronson. In the UK he was known for his work as a newspaper columnist and the face of a motor insurance company. He also founded and funded the Police Memorial Trust in the UK following the murder of WPC Yvonne Fletcher outside the Libyan embassy in London in 1984.<br/> <br />During his 40 year movie making career, Michael Winner worked with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, including Marlon Brando, Robert Mitchum and Faye Dunaway.
