<p>(REUTERS) - Stocks were flat on Tuesday as investors looked for new reasons in economic data or earnings to extend a rally that pushed major averages near five-year highs.<br /><br />The S&P/Case Shiller composite index showed single-family home prices rose in November, building on a string of gains that point to a housing market that is on the mend.<br /><br />The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was up 13.40 points, or 0.10 percent, at 13,895.33. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX was down 1.01 points, or 0.07 percent, at 1,499.17.
