Syria shelling causes overcrowding at refugee camps

Smoke rises over the al-Qadam district of the Syrian capital Damascus.<br/> <br />Videos obtained from social media websites show the aftermath of attacks here and elsewhere across the country.<br/> <br />Reuters cannot independently verify the content of the videos.<br/> <br />In al-Raqqah, west of Aleppo, an aircraft is seen flying overhead before a thick plume of smoke billows from a building in the distance.<br/> <br />The fighting in Syria has been going on for 22 months now, and it's not just the death toll which keeps rising.<br/> <br />Increasing too is the number of Syrians forced to flee to refugee camps like this one in the northern town of Atme, 60km from Idlib.<br/> <br />Conditions in the camp, which houses between 15-20 thousand refugees, are difficult, particularly in the winter months.<br/> <br />This refugee says the numbers in the camp increase day by day.<br/> <br />He says this is a result of the continued violent attacks by the regime against the Syrian people.<br/> <br />The conflict in Syria has so far claimed over 60,000 lives, according to UN statistics.
