With it's swing hinge you can mount to any surface and just angle it to the direction required. It has been raining for the last 2 weeks, so it has been put to the test and performs perfectly. I personally would not use it for a primary clothes line, but definitely recommended for the out of the weather fall-back line when it is raining. <br /><br />A 100 year item <br />Posted by Mike Case - Iowa on 4th Mar 2012 <br />We bought this as temporary solution to winter clothes drying 35 years ago. It is pulled out between two posts in our loft 36 feet apart. Still retracts like a jack rabbit. I think it might last 100 years!!
