Police re-examine firing of officer wanted for murder

Police scour southern California for a former officer wanted for three murders.<br/> <br />More than 100 police as well as dogs, helicopters and armoured personnel carriers are searching for Christopher Dorner after his burning pickup truck was found near Big Bear Lake, a popular ski resort, Thursday.<br/> <br />A Los Angeles police spokesman said the police chief is re-examining Dorner's 2008 dismissal for allegedly falsely accusing another officer of excessive force.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (English) COMMANDER ANDREW SMITH, LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT, SAYING:<br/> <br />"He's not opening it because of the accusations or because of the musings of someone who's a multiple murderer now. He's doing it because he wants to ensure that the public knows that the Los Angeles Police Department is fair and transparent."<br/> <br />Dorner declared war on law enforcement and complained of his firing in an online manifesto posted last week.<br/> <br />The 33-year-old is accused of killing the 28-year-old daughter of a retired police captain who represented him in a disciplinary action that led to his firing. He is also wanted for killing the woman's fiancé and an officer.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHRIS VICINO, RIVERSIDE POLICE DEPARTMENTASSISTANT CHIEF, SAYING:<br/> <br />"We will look under every rock, we will look around every corner, we will search mountain tops for him."<br/> <br />Dorner is believed armed with an assault rifle and other weapons.<br/> <br />Police are protecting more than 50 officers and their families who were threatened in the manifesto as well as increasing security for Sunday's Grammy Awards.
