North Koreans celebrate Lunar New Year

It's a day of celebration here in North Korea.<br/> <br />On Sunday crowds turned out to mark the Lunar New Year in Pyongyang, and to usher in the Year of the Snake.<br/> <br />Footage filmed by official state media agency KCNA for Reuters shows North Koreans offering flowers to the statues of the country's founder Kim Il-sung and late leader Kim Jong-il.<br/> <br />High ranking officials also attended performances by school children to honour the holiday.<br/> <br />The festivities come as international tensions rise over a possible third nuclear test by North Korea.<br/> <br />Last December, a rocket launch violated a U.N. resolution banning Pyongyang from developing missile or nuclear technology, after two nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009.<br/> <br />North Korea says it has a sovereign right to launch rockets for peaceful purposes.
