Smoke rises from the compound of a senior government official in Pakistan where a gunfight on Monday killed four security guards and at least one militant.<br/> <br />Gunmen raided the compound of top political official Muttahirzeb Khan in Peshawar, where tribal leaders and members of political parties had gathered to hold talks.<br/> <br />Witnesses say they heard two explosions followed by heavy gunfire.<br/> <br />Officials suspect the attackers, who were wearing police uniforms, were suicide bombers.<br/> <br />There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack but the Pakistani Taliban have carried out similar operations.<br/> <br />Militants have stepped up attacks across Pakistan just months ahead of a national election.<br/> <br />On Saturday, 85 people, most of them Shi'ites, were killed in the south-western city of Quetta in an attack blamed on Sunni militants.
