Deadly blasts hit Iraq's Kirkuk

Iraqis in the city of Kirkuk inspect damage to a local Shi'ite mosque.<br/> <br />A car bomb detonated here on Monday, killing at least one civillian and wounding 16 others.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EYEWITNESS, ABU AHMED, SAYING:<br/> <br />"This is a mosque, Allah's house. Even the holy book, the Koran was burnt. This is a mosque, not the headquarters of a party in which there is an official to be targeted, this is Allah's house. I don't know what religion they believe in?"<br/> <br />The blast was part of a string of coordinated attacks.<br/> <br />Elsewhere in the city, a motorbike bomb detonated next to a police patrol.<br/> <br />Mortar rounds also landed in areas populated by Shi'ites and Turkmen.<br/> <br />The attacks were the latest in a wave of violence that's stoking sectarian tensions and challenging the country's Shi'ite Muslim Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.<br/> <br />No group has claimed responsibility for Monday's attacks.<br/> <br />But Iraq's local Al-Qaeda wing has been behind similar, deadly attacks on Shi'ite targets in Baghdad in recent days.
