Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali enters the presidential palace in Tunis on Tuesday to announce his resignation from his post.<br/> <br />The decision comes after the PM's attempt to end a political stand-off by forming a government of technocrats failed.<br/> <br />Jebali had proposed to form the new cabinet to quell turmoil caused by the assassination of secular opposition politician Chokri Belaid on February 6.<br/> <br />After a meeting with President Moncef Marzouki, Jebali spoke to the press.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) TUNISIAN PRIME MINISTER HAMADI JEBALI, SAYING:<br/> <br />"The resignation of the prime minister and failure of this initiative does not mean the failure of Tunisia, it does not mean the failure of the revolution, God willing."<br/> <br />Jebali said he would not lead another government without assurances on the timing of fresh elections and a new constitution.
