Firefighters battle blazes after fierce fighting in central Myanmar.<br/> <br />Several neighbourhoods were still smouldering on Friday after unrest between Buddhists and Muslims in the area erupted into violence.<br/> <br />The clashes have stoked fears that last year's sectarian bloodshed is spreading into the country's heartland.<br/> <br />At least one mosque, an Islamic religious school, several shops, a government office and both Buddhist and Muslim homes were set alight.<br/> <br />The violence allegedly broke out after an argument between a Buddhist couple and the Muslim owners of a gold shop spiralled into a riot involving hundreds of people.<br/> <br />Myanmar has declared martial law in four central townships.<br/> <br />Twenty people, including a Buddhist monk, have been killed and dozens wounded since Wednesday.<br/> <br />More than 2,000 people have been displaced by the fighting.
