(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />Over a month's worth of snow fell in Kiev within 24 hours this week, halting traffic and stranding drivers on Saturday (March 23).<br/> <br />Some 50 cm (20 inches) of snowfall blanketed the Ukrainian capital - more than the monthly norm of 47 cm (18.5 inches).<br/> <br />The sudden snowstorm left many residents complaining that city authorities were not responding quickly enough to clear the streets.<br/> <br />Many truck drivers were stranded in the roads, and public transport such as buses and trams ground to a halt in snow. Some 550 servicemen were deployed to attempt to dig the city out and clear its streets.<br/> <br />Dozens of flights at Kiev's biggest airport Boryspil were delayed or cancelled because of the weather, and Zhuliany, the city's second airport shut down operations completely.
