Former CIA Director David Petraeus breaks his silence.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (English) DAVID PETRAEUS ON HIS SITUATION SAYING:<br/> <br />"So, please allow me to begin my remarks for this evening with reiterating how deeply I regret and apologize for the circumstances that led to my resignation from the CIA and caused such pain for my family, friends and supporters."<br/> <br />His appearance at an event honouring University of Southern California veterans and Reserve Officers' Training Corps students was his first public speech since the scandal that erupted in November.<br/> <br />The former general's talk mostly focused on the problems veterans face when returning from war.<br/> <br />The sex scandal involved Petraeus and his biographer, Paula Broadwell, an Army reserve intelligence officer who is also married.<br/> <br />It was a stunning downfall for a revered military man who was seen as one of the top American leaders of his generation.
