A unit of Chinese missile destroyers conducted live-fire training in the South China Sea recently, as tensions with neighbours over disputed islands remain high.<br/> <br />The drill, simulating assaults from hostile vessels, was aimed at testing the unit's capabilities of countering air raids and electromagnetic interference and staging missile attacks, state television CCTV said.<br/> <br />China is involved in long-running disputes with Vietnam and Taiwan about ownership of the South China Sea and its myriad, mostly uninhabited, islands and atolls. The Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei also have claims.
