In a rare show of unity over Syria, the UN Security Council said the ongoing violence there is unacceptable and must end immediately. The council has also condemned human rights abuses by both the government and rebels. The UN's humanitarian chief has asked the Security Council to approve cross-border relief operations into Syria.
