Japan marks sovereignty restoration day

In a show of nationalism, mainland Japan celebrates the restoration of it's sovereignty for the first time since regaining it in 1952.<br/> <br />Sunday, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared April 28th Sovereignty Restoration Day to mark the day that Japan fully regained its independence from the Allied Occupation after World War II.<br/> <br />As part of a drive to repair what conservatives consider a dented national pride, Abe urged citizens to take responsibility for making Japan a proud nation once again.<br/> <br />Meanwhile in Okinawa, people held anti-sovereignty day protests. The island didn't regain its independence until 1972- a full 20 years after the mainland.
