A policeman lies bleeding after being shot outside the prime minister's office in the Italian capital Rome.<br/> <br />Close by, a man believed to be the shooter is pinned to the ground.<br/> <br />Two officers were shot in the incident which took place as the new government of Prime Minister Enrico Letta was being sworn in at the presidential palace one kilometre away.<br/> <br />One of the officers was shot in the neck and police say he is in a serious condition. Another was hit in the leg and was less seriously hurt.<br/> <br />Italian media said a passer-by had also been injured but not seriously.<br/> <br />It was not immediately clear whether the attack was linked to the launch of the new government, but the episode came at a time of bitter political division with rising social tensions exacerbated by a long economic slump.
