I tried the free app but the guard one works better. So I did not upgrade.
  • Blocks Some Ads and Privacy Concerns

While the main portion of the app blocks some ads, there are some that get through. Using the plus portion of the app raises far to many privacy concerns however. The use of the their DNS does not discuss data logging via the server connection. So while the developer claims privacy is in place there’s simply no proof of that when it comes to the subscription based side of things. And asking about it leaves a lot to be desired as you’ll get no real response just a candid “it works like nextdns” which is simply not the case. The app is super light weight, which is a major plus, and works faster than most Adblockers on the market. It’s the privacy concerns via their “plus” portion that leaves far to many questions to continue to use their application as a daily driver unfortunately.

  • Major issue. Only reinstalling Bolt solved it

UPDATED: I am changing this review to five stars only because I don't want to hurt the indie developer, but I did not know any other way to get the developer's attention. It's too bad the developer hasn't thought to allow a feedback form directly to his email within the app. Even if a device is new or old, it should still work. I definitely allowed plenty of time for the filters to update. In fact, it stated there were no updates for the filters when I attempted to update them! So, enabling and enabling the filters on a website, restarting the device, closing Safari and reopening it, signing out of the website and signing back in, and many other things were tried and none of these things worked. The only thing that worked was deleting Bolt entirely and forcing it to update its filters. That finally fixed the issue with the ads on the website. They were once again hidden. This issue DOES need to be looked at more closely by the developer. UPDATED REVIEW: Unfortunately, if I manually disable bolt within Safari and then reenable it, the filters do not reenable. Ads were not blocked until I completely deleted Bolt and reinstalled it. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Almost perfect Almost perfect, but it allows interstitial ads on "can you block it" website test. One problem: there is something that happens sometimes where I cannot get it to enable itself. For example I will have content blockers on and Bolt enabled on a website and yet the ads are still showing. I do not have ads showing in my Apple settings.
  • Can’t block certain domains

I used to use Bolt a lot! Now, it takes forever to load up lists when launched and it can’t block all domain names. For instance, I wanted to block a .quest domain and it won’t let me. So, pop ups from that domain exist. I’d like to be able to blacklist anything I choose. Not what Bolt wants me to choose.
  • Effective and Trustworthy!!

This app keeps ads away, it's free, and the developer is honest. Facebook, for example, will be much slower in loading. However, that is because the platform forces its intrusive, information collecting devices onto you, which Bolt prevents from accessing our computers. At least, from what I can tell. If you have issues with accessing a trustworthy website, simply add the site to the Whitelist on the Bolt application, and you should be able to access the site without a problem!! Highly recommended!
  • Updated are not forthcoming

Hello. Since you don’t have any option to contact you via your website, I’m writing on this platform. I see you have a whole list of updates but they do not contain any information as to what was rue updates contained or improved on. The explanation says nothing, just general small updates here. Minor update there. Your team is relatively new with this being your second app and it being the first one in some thing that everybody uses, i.e. Safari. Therefore, your reputation has not been established I know I do not trust simply just because you say you don’t collect any information. It’s something that would have been earn, and with the fact that you’re being so completely vague about what each update includes that doesn’t look good. Perhaps you can be transparent. Thank you. I will change this review once communication improves and safety becomes obvious as a primary concern.
  • Thank you

I am always skeptical about ad blockers because a lot don’t work. I like how you don’t seem to be part of a team or corporation. This ad blocker works like it’s developed to and I like how it’s simplistic and almost “underdeveloped”. Makes me trust that you work on the things that matter and not to make the app pretty. Thanks.
  • It worked great for about 2 years

This extension was the best for a while for me, but it no longer does what it’s intended to do, I have no idea how or why, but the ads are back
