Description

Castro is a beautifully designed, fully-featured and critically acclaimed podcast player that makes it easy to listen to podcast episodes that are most interesting to you. Castro has been the top podcast player for people who love podcasts since 2013. Castro’s unique Inbox feature helps you queue up and download specific episodes you care about and easily skip the rest. Queue up hours of podcasts and enjoy a seamless listening experience across your devices, including Apple Watch and Carplay support. Looking for more advanced features? Castro Plus adds many additional options and customization, and supports future development of the app. WHY CASTRO IS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PODCAST APPS 1. New episodes land in the INBOX tab. Read episode descriptions and add episodes you like to your QUEUE, and clear the rest. 2. Press play to listen to episodes from your Queue in order. Queued episodes are downloaded automatically. 3. Re-order your QUEUE to plan your next few hours of listening at any time. Browse your LIBRARY to review the back catalogue, quickly access starred shows, and see your listening history. The best part? Subscribing to a podcast is no longer a commitment to listen to every episode. Instead, manage your podcasts like your email inbox, and skip episodes that aren’t of interest to you. WHY OUR COMMUNITY LOVES CASTRO • Drag and drop podcasts to plan your listening with Castro’s unique Inbox and Queue • Episode Notifications: include a summary of the episode to help you decide if it interests you. Play, queue or clear each episode, as they drop • CarPlay Support: makes it easy to listen in the car and pick up where you left off • Apple Watch App: control playback and select another episode from your Queue • Wind Down at Night: Dark mode and a thoughtfully designed sleep timer offer the best in night time podcast listening. REVIEWS ARE IN – Castro is Better Than Ever “Castro has truly come into its own: it’s become an app that serves nearly any podcast fan’s needs.”— MacStories “Castro Is a Great Modern Podcast App” — Beautiful Pixels “Unlike other podcatchers, Castro's primary virtue is its simplicity and ease of use. The app combines sleek visual design with crystal clear audio.” — Tom’s Guide “Castro is an incredible app.” — The Sweet Setup CASTRO PLUS Castro Plus is an optional, paid subscription that unlocks a range of advanced features and benefits: • Trim Silence: Get through more episodes faster. Under the hood, Enhance Voices applies a dynamic compressor to increase volume where it’s needed. • Sync: Sync playback across devices • Sideloading: Import audio files directly to Castro, just by dropping them in iCloud Drive • Mono-Mix: Mixes a stereo podcast to mono, which makes it easier to hear podcasts that pan some guests on left/right channels. • Chapter Support: Artwork, Skipping & Pre-selection of podcast chapters. • Custom settings Per-Podcast: Episode Limit, Trim Silence, Enhance Voices, Mono Mix, Skip Intros, Playback Speed. • Family Sharing: Some plans include Plus features for up to 5 other family members • Custom App Icons: Change your Castro App icon to fit your style and home screen TERMS, CONDITIONS & SUPPORT: Castro - Terms of Service and Subscription Terms: https://maplemedia.io/terms-of-service/ Castro Privacy Policy: https://maplemedia.io/privacy/ Knowledge Base and FAQ: https://castro.fm/support Real, Human Customer Support: Email us at support@castro.fm

Updating the app and adding a new bunch of usage tracking that you can’t opt out of and you can’t use the app without clicking accept is horrid. And why I’m canceling my subscription.
  • Simply the Best

I was a loyal Overcast user for years. Early adopter, paid for features, then donated when the model changed. As that program became riddled with bugs, and then the new version became unusable, I switched to Castro. Instead of finding a replacement to Overcast, I found a vast superior experience. It manages podcasts in a unique way, with an inbox and a queue.it greatly reduces mental overhead, and smartly manages downloads. Tech service the one time I needed it was rapid, polite, and professional. Castro is my most used app. It is the best.
  • Paying for what???

I pay $25 a year for “updates”. I’ve been a paying customer for several years now, ever since Castro started subscriptions. It started at $10 a year and now is $25 and I can’t in good conscience tell anyone that it is worth that cost. Supposedly, I am paying for “updates” but I’ve got tell you, the Castro team being completely ambivalent and slow about updating for iOS 27 has me pretty frustrated. For $25/year I kind of expect even just a basic update to support the new operating system and sure, can also be ok with a larger update coming out later. iOS 27 came out 6 weeks ago. Castro updated 4 weeks ago but not for iOS 27. My frustration came to a boiling point when I got my iPhone Duo today and Castro looks (and works) like hot garbage. The team should be completely embarrassed. You charge waaay too much for slow adoption like this.

Castro was my favorite podcast app until it fell into disrepair. It has a sleek, elegant, powerful-yet-simple interface, built around a simple concept that makes it easy to find and play the podcast episodes you want and discard the rest. And I’m thrilled that Dustin Bluck decided to take over the development of this app and restore it to its former glory. Dustin knows exactly what made Castro special. Seems the app couldn’t have ended up in better hands.

I was a long time Apple Podcast user and am so glad Castro was recommended to me. As someone who rarely gets to all of their podcasts, the way Castro handles queues and downloads is so much better.
  • I’m a daily user of Castro

I’ve been using Castro for years with only a few minor issues, but recently it’s started draining my battery whenever I use it during my daily run. I’ll start with my phone at 100%, and by the time I’m finished, the battery has dropped dramatically. Today, for example, it went from 100% to 36%, with nothing else running on my phone. It’s really disappointing because I’ve enjoyed using Castro for years, but if this continues, I simply won’t be able to use it on my longer runs. I’m hoping this is a bug that can be addressed in an update soon.
  • Never resumes where I left off

Castro seems to be incapable of resuming my podcasts where I left off. I listen through Car Play and whenever I try and resume a podcast, I’m back 25-30%. Very frustrating.

Came from pocketcasts after they started using gen AI chapters. I feel like I wasted two years using it because Castro has been much less buggy for me so far! My only feedback is that the UI feels kind of messy, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Really amazing work, thank you!!

It’s still my favorite podcast player, even if I have to regularly quit the app from my phone because the CarPlay app froze or won’t play sound.
