Update: 2021 December For some reason the syncing is not working properly in my Pro version. Files are not syncing according to custom settings:( I am afraid I am going to have to ditch this one. It was working great up to now, Previous: I downloaded this in 2021 on Big Sur OS and tried out the free version which worked like a charm. The upgrade is totally worthwhile as it lets you expand subfolders to see what files are unsynced. I transferred/synced 150GB of files without a hitch. Some of the reviews I read (dating 3-5 yrs) back were negative and almost made me not want to downloaad. But the free trial lived up to my expectations and the upgrade exceeded. It really does live up to the "Smart" sync name because it allows to easily set filters and setting on how you want data to be transferred back and forth and the ability to exclude certain folders, or if you just want to back up fron "left to right" (or reverse) etc. I hope the developer will continue keeping it up to date and no, it was not slow for me at all.
  • problems after macos high sierra

I have been using this software for over 2 years with no problems. and I very much like it. However after I upgraded to macos high sierra, problems started to show up. I have 2 main problems: 1- sometimes it finishes syncing without copying all the files. I realized there were some files left out with no reason. 2- In one sync job, it actually copied all the files to the destination folder (ı checked them manually one by one), but it still highlights some folders red (meaning they are not synchronized). Syncing multiple times does not change anything, still red highlight appears

For Windows we had a program called FileSync that’s been around for well over ten years maybe longer. It was similar where you were provided with a list of files on both sides: those that matched, those whose dates were off, those only on the left and those only on the right. You could easily either uncheck a folder or a file to not include specific ones. I like the list for this one but that’s a far as it goes. It shows the file on both sides even though it may not exist on both - cluttered. You have to painfully go through and click for the dropdown for each one which makes for a very slow process. Way too many colors and shading going on. All I want to see are the files that are equal so whats on both sides which should look exactly the same including colors. files on the left which might be blue files on the right which could be red check boxes next to each line (just need one on the left) to tell whehter or not the file or folder should be included also buttons to just show all equal, only left, or only right, or all button to sync AND a dialog box that confirms what I am doing. This thing just does it

I’ve been bouncing around to different data copy programs as of late and this one seems to avoid many of the problems that plague the others. Here are just a few things I noticed work exceptionally well with SmartSync: • Using removable drives, such as externals, flash drives, and servers, all stay synced to the shortcuts you set in the program. For example, every couple days I backup my work folder to an external server, and SmartSync lets me save a favorite for this. When I take my laptop home and bring it back the next day, other programs would not recognize the shortcut, but SmartSync does and really simplifies the regular backing up that I do. • It will not copy/replace everything, but rather scan your drives and compare your two chosen locations and show you a comparison of what is older or newer where. This is nice in case you forgot about saving your very important project to the wrong drive. • You get a very detailed menu for where to copy where and if it should delete old files or sync both folders entirely. For example, if you had two drives, you could save files to either drive and then use SmartSync to bring whatever files are on one or the other to both drives. It’s a very nifty tool, but I mostly just use it to duplicate a folder to a secondary drive. Some notes for what could be improved in future patches: • Allow me to save presets in the Sync Settings, so I could more reliably trust my option. I like to Copy Left to Right and Delete older files on Right, but there’s no preset for that and I’d love to have the option of making my own. • During backup, it will sometimes transfer a very large file (i.e. 15 GB or so) and it will just hang there at whatever percentage it is in the overall transfer, seemingly not progressing while it really actually is. I’d love to see two transfer bars, one for the overall transfer percentage and another for the individual file transfer percentage, as well as an estimated time to complete for each. This usually bothers me at work when it hits 5:00 and I need to go home, but the backup is still going. If I cancel the backup, it waits until the current file finishes before cancelling, and if that file is very large I have no idea what sort of time I am waiting. It’d be nice to see a percentage bar for the file as well as estimated time, so if I cancel I know I’ll have X amount of minutes before it actually cancels. • I don’t see this feature, so correct me if I’m missing it, but a tool to schedule syncs would be fantastic. Overall, fantastic little app and worth the cost. In the end, OSX updates regularly these days so I really just need to see if it’s going to stay updated with newer versions.

Smart Sync is a great program for syncing and backing up. I've e-mailed the developers a couple times with suggestions. Each time within a week they made the changes to the program. I switched to this program because I use at FCP X and it will read the package contents and backup just what's changed.

I like this app, in theory it seems great but it has several limitations. If you delete a file on the source drive, it does not delete it from the desination drive.. Crashes often, you need to restart it manually or your files won't be synced. Some of the jobs stopped working, fortunatly I deleted several files from the source drive and I ran SyncTwoFolders (a free app) to clean up the destination drive and it copied hundreds of new files I added weeks prior!?!? I hope the app is updated with features that live up it's name SMART SYNC...
  • Spell check!

I like this app but seriously guys, you need to spell check before you put an app in the app store. I wish I could post pictures in this review. You misspelled manually, processing, and left the "e" off of replace… The UI is not a very polished design and looks very amateur. The one thing I wish this app would let you do is chose individual files to sync to the left or right. Instead you're only left with filters to decide which files to sync. Ex, files on the left are the latest, replace on the right or vice versa. Instead, I'd like to select individual files that I want to say "ignore" or "move this one and not that one" and sync all others. Minor flaw, but it works without any major bugs. EDIT: Just noticed you can see some of the mispellings in the screenshots above. The "e" missing in replace is on the 2nd pic, and manually misspelled in the 3rd pic.
  • Best folder sync app

I use time machine with this. But since there are large VM files that I don't want to version all the time and alot of other folders I don't want getting versioned I add to ignore, then all those ignored folders are added on this app for backup. I used to use automator but this one makes it straigtforward. Features I'd like to see: Clone to right - it's just like backup to right but change the files and folders only exists on right to delete. So it's a true clone. Sync Jobs Time Machine Ignore Importer - import all time machine ignore folders to sync jobs and select a single backup plan for all But otherwise it's perfect as it is Thanks
