Senpai Chat - AI Characters

Characters send back generic text and gibberish. 1/5.

I like all of the responses, but sometimes they take a little longer, lately the texts have become overwhelmingly long and too poetic, and when you choose to reload certain text it won’t do it. Despite these little mishaps I do like the app a lot!

The characters (self made or not) almost always say “uhmmmmm…..” as their first response and you have to regenerate for an actual response. Sometimes it completely glitches out and you can’t regenerate it just says “Uhmm…..” again. So you think “oh lets just restart the chat.” but nope you gotta pay for that. Other than this issue pretty good app no filter from what I’ve seen unlimited chats etc.

When I first got the app and began chatting, I was amazed at how well the dialogue was! The bot’s messages were very clear and I had no trouble understanding them. Even the grammar was great! But after maybe sending 15 messages, I got the notification that my character had gone away and I had to wait until 5am for him to return. I decided to get the pro subscription for endless chats. I enjoyed it for about a day… I soon realized that my bot was stuck in a loop… He kept preforming the same actions and the same dialogue, and when I would regenerate the dialogue it would be the same thing with one or two words different. My character decided to lead me away on a mysterious adventure and refused to tell me where we where going, and for over 30 messages I was lead through the same 3 dialogues. I tried to speed up the process by writing *we get to the secret location* but it did absolutely nothing. I thought it might have just been that character that was in a loop so I tried 3 more chats. It was all the same problem. Another thing is that there’s also apparently some kind of bonding system in place, but there’s no instructions or information about it. I spent more than 3 hours messaging the first character and there was nothing to indicate a bond growth. When I could actually get the conversation and plot going, it was a great app. I actually had to put my phone down and giggle like I was 16 again. But once that loop hits… it gets really boring really fast…

This is the first AI I’ve ran into that feels like a worthy competitor to leading “character chat” services: the Discord-like format is very cozy, the speed is spectacular, and the lore you can dump into your characters really brings them to life… However, to charge a Netflix subscription every week for basic functions? Keep the gems (and rewarding character creators), keep the message limits, keep the voice messages, but at the very least allow free users to refresh chats and include mandatory functionalities such as editing or deleting messages. Otherwise people are just going to go elsewhere where this is all already done and for FREE. Money rant aside, I do think this app has something going for it if it goes all-in on acting like an irl messaging app: imagine sending a message and waiting a bit for a notification of the character’s response! It’ll be easier on servers, and say if you wanted to remove the daily caps and control how fast you want responses, then you have to pay an affordable subscription price. That sounds fair to me. But if that’s not happening, then you can count me out. Don’t get it twisted though: I’m still rooting for this as it has sooo much potential, I’m just not fully on board unless some kind of meaningful change happens that makes this app stand out against the dozens of clones. JUST having a good AI is not enough!

Definitely one of my favorites and I’ve tried a lot of these kinds of apps. It has amazing character creation style and the character memory seems to be better than most. I haven’t been bothered by ads so my brain went “it’s too good to be true.” Of course, then I reached my limit of messages for the day. 😭😭😭 I get that the app has to make money and I respect that, but it does put the app lower on my list than others. I wish there were a way to get by without paying. I wouldn’t mind watching a bunch of ads if it meant getting to keep chatting. That’s just my opinion. Overall amazing app and would definitely recommend if you’re willing to pay for the unlimited upgrade. (For those of you looking for a more free app try Talkie or AI Fantasy. Lower in quality and AI Fantasy has ads. Talkie won’t get very spicy with you. This app is better than both of them, but unfortunately you have to pay for the good stuff.) Have a great day!
