Great app if you don’t expect the world from it

I love this app as a segment of my recovery journey. It seems to me to be built on three primary features: check-ins, journaling, and of course, Turkey.
I absolutely love that this app basically doesn’t care if you do or don’t check in. Sure, it keeps track of stats and such, but I’ve never been bugged, pressured, or judged if I miss a check-in. It’s just picks up from there and lets you keep rolling on.
The journal feature is always available. Again, I’ve never been bugged, pressured, or judged if I don’t journal, but the option to journal is always there if I need it or want it. It’s really helped to write down my thoughts at different times.
Turkey is my favorite. He (or she) reflects the stage I’m in on my journey. During my longest streak, Turkey went from being drug out and run down to happy and reading a book instead of the negative habits that marked the beginning of my journey. The illustrations of Turkey act as a mirror to my own behavior and a window into how my behavior affects myself and others. I love seeing Turkey on my Home Screen and on the app.
Lastly, it’s informed, but not clinical! Language typically considered crass is not a taboo here, it’s just normal. And being able to use common vernacular in circumstances has helped normalize or weaken the taboo of my behavior, which has helped me face it head on.
I use this app in conjunction with community, personal connection, exercise, the support of my wife, and Brainbuddy, on top of about 8 years of on-and-off recovery work. The simplicity of using Cold Turkey and Brainbuddy for daily check-ins and brain rewiring has made my latest attempt a recovery and sobriety more successful than ever.
This app won’t kure your addiction, but it is a great asset to add to a recovery framework. I pay for both this app and Brainbuddy, and using them simultaneously in combination with my existing framework has been ridiculously helpful. Hope you all love it, too.
