It’s an incredible app. Better than Duolingo. But… they don’t have Korean which is what I wanted to learn!!
  • Some Concerns with Poor Diction, Inaccurate Translations

We have been disappointed in Babbel. We signed up for a year subscription and we have been using the app almost daily for two months. Pronunciation is frequently unintelligible due to words being run together and being spoken too quickly. Phrases and sentences are often not accurately translated when checked against Google Translate (whose diction is also much clearer). We often find the Babbel sentences to be poorly constructed and more complicated than needed for new learners.

I don’t recommend Babbel at all. It’s hard. I tried Duolingo and Babbel at the same time. If you are just trying to speak Spanish I think Duolingo is much better. I have learned more Spanish from the Duolingo app in the same amount of time than I have the Babbel app. This is just my honest opinion.

I just want to be able to say hello, good afternoon, thank you, good night. These lessons do not address that.
  • Can’t do it your way.

Can’t just look up a word. Can’t just have the mic on to translate. Can’t use pictures to identify objects. We have to do it the way Babbel wants us to. Very inflexible and not practical. Feel like a high school language class. Ugh. What a waste. Who wants to go back to that!?
  • Vocab reclassified. WHY.

Why did you move all of my vocab into the weak category? I used to have 1000 items in the fully learned category. Now I have to review them again alongside new terms? Unbelievably stupid. Please tell me why you would erase my progress in an actual message, not a canned response about how you’re sorry and I should contact customer service. I do not need to practice “Wie heißen Sie?” again.

you should be able to click any button filled with text and be able to listen to pronunciation. anytime i feel like it! instead you can only do that in very selective areas.
  • It’s okay

I like that they give you tips. They sometimes introduce a new word and don’t tell you what the word means before asking a question. I had to use both Duolingo and Babbel to really understand Spanish.
