Description

Translate and learn millions of words and expressions and express yourself as if you were a native speaker. Reverso is the best tool for those who seek quality translation, looking to master a foreign language: reading, writing or speaking, and it's free. Students, teachers, business professionals or others, whether beginners or advanced, use Reverso to learn new words or expressions, and eliminate the risk of being mistaken. It provides you instant translations of the selected text when reading content on your browser, on Safari or any other app. Reverso Context is based on data gathered from millions of real-life texts (official documents, movie subtitles, product descriptions) in both languages. These texts are processed with powerful "big data" algorithms and machine learning to provide you the best results. What do we mean by context? The search results (translation) of a specific word or expression are weaved within real-life sentences, so you will be sure to understand and learn exactly how the word can be used, and make no embarrassing mistakes. Just type or say the word or expression you wish to translate and the results will appear instantly: relevant translations, presented with examples of how words are used in sentences. The app offers flashcards and quizzes based on your search history and favorites to help you memorize them and to improve your language skills. Unlike standard learning tools, it focuses on words and expressions that you really need and want to learn. The bits and bytes: * Instantly translate selected text when reading content on your browser, iBook or any other app, with no need to exit the app you are using. Click on the familiar "Share" option and select the Reverso option. * Translation in 17 languages: Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Polish, Dutch, Arabic, Russian, Romanian, Japanese, Turkish, Hebrew and Chinese, Korean, Swedish, Ukrainian and we are working on more. * Advanced features include pronunciation, history, phrasebook of your favorites and more. * Create vocabulary lists based on your personal selection of examples and translations. Lists remain available even when you’re offline. * Enjoy natural pronunciation of complete example sentences. * One click to get translations, frequency details, and conjugation when applicable. * Search history, also available offline. * Suggestions: words and expressions will be suggested to you as you type. * Share your findings via email or social media. • This App is very frustrating

I tried to look up the Hungarian word for Hungary, so I selected English as the language to translate from, and Hungarian as the language to translate to. But when I typed in Hungary, the app reversed the languages, thinking that Hungary is a Hungarian word. I tried it several times with the same result. So there is no way I can find out what the Hungarian word is for Hungary with this app. That is extremely aggravating.

This app is so so so useful. I never write reviews but it’s so good it deserves one! I’m learning Spanish and I use this app literally everyday to help. It gives so many amazing examples and is genuinely the most helpful translator I’ve even used. PLEASE get it if you’re learning a new language!!!!

I want to use this app to improve my vocabulary. I would appreciate a widget that pulls words from saved lists so that I can practice possibly when I open my phone.

  • No Greek language option

A developer sent me a note claiming the Greek language was added to the app. However, after downloading and purchasing the premium subscription, I found there was no option to select the Greek language. I canceled the subscription before being charged.

I am finding this the best free app so far for translations, and I appreciate all the free functionality provided, and the evident care with which the app was developed. I have hesitated to upgrade to premium for two reasons: 1. Some sentence translations are wildly, wildly wrong. 2. I am unsettled and offended by the frequent unsavory sexual nature of many examples, for example this last straw when trying to find the French word rigour, (which Google simply translates as harsh): "and I jumped on her from behind..." I simply will not complete the quote. Distasteful. At the repeated request of the developer I am upwardly revising my star rating as I am impressed with all the work put into this app, and my original objection to it no longer occurs. However, I did not test it extensively; but it does look really good. I’m very impressed at the amount of care they are taking with this app.
  • Not Ready for Prime Time

I regret paying the subscription price for this app. The app claims to be intelligent, but to me it seems lazy. The translation examples, which are scraped from the internet, are sometimes wrong. You can report those, but incorrect translations shouldn’t be delivered to users who may have a hard time spotting them. Also, the app may give you many translations for a word or phrase but the quiz will accept only one. For example, in a quiz the app may ask you to translate the English word “sometimes” into French. There are many ways to translate “sometimes” (as the translation tab will show you), but in the quiz it is looking for only one. So if it’s looking for tantôt and you type parfois, which also means sometimes, it will tell you that’s incorrect. If you type quelque fois, which also means sometimes, it will tell you that’s incorrect. If you type des fois, which also means sometimes, it will tell you that’s incorrect. Et cetera. Why can’t the quiz part of the app consult the translation part of the app to see that all of these responses are correct? This must be fixed. There’s no way to claim this app is using any kind of intelligence, artificial or otherwise, as long as it’s telling users that correct answers are incorrect. Furthermore, the quizzes claim to use a clever repetition sequence, but in practice they seem to assume that all humans memorize a word or phrase once it has been seen seven times. The translation feature also needs to offer both vous and tu translations or allow users to toggle between them. Maybe when these things have been fixed it will be worth paying for.
  • What Reverso is really good for

3/22/25: so I get a response from the developer, just now, months after I noted how poorly Reverso translates Russian telling me to update and checkout the new enhanced English dictionary. Guess he didn’t read my comment.
  • AI is trash

    1
    By Flora Racine
The AI added to the app makes it completely unusable. The language models are heavily biased towards English grammar. AI only makes things worse, hiring more humans and relying on their expertise in languages and phraseology they're fluent in would make this a better product.
