Description

He's fighting the silence; she's painting his world with color again.

Zane
Battled, broken, and branded by war, I came to Oakside seeking refuge, not redemption.
The blast took my hearing and tossed my world into silence.
Now I'm a grizzled former Navy SEAL battling with my demons and the silence of my world, until I stumble upon Carlee.
Despite the years and experiences that separate us, she looks at me and sees a man, not a collection of scars and stories.
But with my past and her dreams of a future, I'm not convinced I can it give to her.

Carlee
Art is my refuge, my way of speaking when words fail me.
Oakside is supposed to be just another step in building my dream.
Helping Zane find his way back to himself wasn't in my plans, despite the shadows that linger in his eyes, I see the possibility of a future together.
Until I get the phone call that says I'm the sole guardian of my six year old niece.
Now I'm thrust into a life he's made clear he doesn't want.

Zane is a former SEAL. He was discharged to a therapeutic hospital to help him acclimate to life outside the military. Zane is now deaf and really trying to get used to his new life. At the hospital, he meets Carlee. She is an art therapist there. Carlee and Zane develop a close relationship. After some life-altering news, Carlee is afraid that Zane will not want to share her new life with her. Zane is afraid that he will not fit into Carlee’s new life. This book was amazing! I fell in love with Zane. He came a long way throughout the book!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love all the books of Oakside Military Heroes (three of them are my "go to" books for rereading multiple times). These books have many beloved characters and family chosen. An injured SEAL and a special lady and lives they never dreamed of. This will likely be on my rereads within the month. Bravo!. Saving Zane is book 8 in the Oakside Military Heroes series by Kaci Rose, up next is Zane and Carlee. 4.5 stars After Zane lost his hearing on his last mission, he comes to Oakside for more healing and to discover what his life will be outside the military. When he meets Carlee sitting on the grass drawing, he’s drawn to her like a bee to honey. Both feel the pull but neither are looking for more until a tragedy strikes and things change…age gap, guardian, family disapproval, new reality, having each others backs and finding a HEA they never saw coming… I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book from Greys PR. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve read and enjoyed a few of Kaci Rose’s books, but this is my first Oakside book. I won’t be my last! I loved Zane and Carlee’s chemistry, grown from a friendship I don’t think either saw coming. This scarred and injured military man and the young art teacher, who seem to have nothing in common, but they just work. Carlee learns sign language with him to communicate better as he takes her class, wanting to be near her and see art through her eyes. He’s her defender, as well, against a mother who is critical and mean. I’ll be going back to read the other books in this series, as well.
